Folded letter datelined "New York, March 6th, 54" addressed to the captain of the steamer Cortez (Nicaragua Steamship Co.), handed to the route agent in New York and when it reached San Francisco it received the "Way" in oval handstamp and manuscript "11" rate (10¢ unpaid rate plus 1¢ way fee), Very Fine, an extremely rare San Francisco "Way 11" rate usage, ex Kramer. Estimate $750 - 1,000.
Sent on the U.S.M.S.C. - Ohio departing New York on March 6th and arriving in Aspinwall on March 18th, then by P.M.S.C. - John L. Stephens departing Panama on March 19th and arriving in San Francisco on April 2nd. The captain of the N.S.C. - Cortez left San Francisco on March 16th and returned on April 16th.
