Folded letter datelined New York 26th April 1851 with manuscript "pr Steamer Prometheus" ship endorsement and Berford & Co.'s Express red "Paid" handstamp, reverse with clear full strike of red "Forwarded Through Gilpin's Exchange, Reading Room and Foreign Letter Office, N-York" oval handstamp, "Rec'd per Isthmus June 7/51" pencil inside docketing, Extremely Fine, a wonderful express usage sent on Vanderbilt's Independent Line, pictured in Coburn's Letters of Gold (pg. 92). Estimate $500 - 750.
Sent on Vanderbilt's Line - Prometheus departing New York on April 28th and arriving in Charges on May 5th, then by P.M.S.C. - Isthmus departing Panama on may 20th and arriving in San Francisco on June 7th.
