Reynolds Express. Clear strike of small shield handstamp on 1850 incoming cover to San Francisco, manuscript "Freetown, Ms., June 5" origin postmark and matching "40" rate; minor corner wear at right, Very Fine, a very rare and choice example of Reynold's early small shield handstamp, ex Dale-Lichtenstein.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

Reynolds Express served the mining camps located in the district known as the Southern Mines, carrying the miners' outgoing mail to Stockton, San Francisco and Sacramento, and picking up incoming letters at those locales for delivery to the gold camps.
