Confederate States: Postal Markings by State (Alabama to Tennessee)

Lot 322

Confederacy, Warrington, Fla./Jan. 16 (1862). Cds with both encircled (due) "5" and (due) "10" handstamps (Dietz type IA & IB) on unrecognized U.S. 3¢ Star-Die entire addressed to "W. W. Casper Esq., Nashville, Tennessee" with soldier endorsement of "Private W. Bell Co D 10th Regt Miss Vols", included is original enclosure, some edge creasing/tears, Fine.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Wat Bell is apparently the private in question. Often amusing long 2-page literate soldier's letter headed "Camp Phillips near Warrington, Fla January 15th 1862" mostly re camp life with relief from boredom "by the exchange of a few cannon balls and bomb shells from our neighbors across the Bay but so soon as our friendly exchanges of shot (no one ever gets hurt - at least on our side) ceases, camp life becomes dull again".

Realized: $750
