Mexico, (Colima) Colima. Fancy oval postmark (Schatzkes 178) on three folded letters from correspondence to Mexico City; 1856 letter with "1" rate handstamp and 1861 letter with "2" rate handstamp (rates both on reverse), third 1857 letter franked with Guadalajara 1856, 2r green (Sc. #3) tied by postmark, Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Correspondence from the Dettling Co. to Carlos Whitehead. Whitehead sold Mexico bonds to Europeans whose default led to the 1860's European Intervention and the Maximilian Empire.
