Lot 2589
1870 Indian Head Cent. Freckles of delicate reddish-tan run over the cherry-orange surfaces. Well but not fully struck, with the usual softness seen in some of the feather tips and the reverse shield. A shallow "N" in "ONE" is a characteristic of the reverse hub in use from 1864-early 1870, and not due to a weak strike. The surfaces are pristine, save for some minor flecks and a small graze through the "I" in "UNITED". The entire obverse legend is recut, and signs of die clashing are seen, with an obvious impression from the "C" in "CENT" in the left obverse field. Population: 72 in 64 Red, 33 finer (8/09)., PCGS graded MS-64 Red.Estimate $750 - 1,000.
