Warren Texas, Decr 28th /48. Manuscript postmark and "10" manuscript rate marking on stampless folded letter to Trenton, New Jersey, from James H. Mars to his brother Samuel, letter is headed "Bonham Francis Co. Texas, Dec. 14th 1848" and "Sherman, Grayson County, December 23d 1848" and mentions "I am about taking a trip to California next Spring as soon as the grass rises." and "I commenced this letter in Bonham some ten days since + folded it up, deposited it in my hat + there it has remained ever since." and "The papers you sent me have not yet come to hand. The mails for the last 3 or 4 weeks have been perfectly crowded + I presume they have been left for the purpose of making room for the political documents.", a few minor stains, Very Fine, a rare early Texas cover.
