Bonham Tex, Feb. 9. Manuscript postmark and "10" manuscript rate marking on stampless folded letter to Trenton, New Jersey, from James H. Mars to his brother Samuel, letter is headed "Sherman Grayson County, Tex., Jan. 25th 1849" and says about the migration to California "I am afraid we are going to depopulate Texas in toto. There are some three large caravans to start on in April and two in May, all bound for the "Gold Region" as a matter of course… I think I will go over + see at last…." and about mud "The floor on which I am now sitting is covered with a full half inch of the real black, rich soil of the Prairie - muck - I believe we used to call it.
