Portsmouth Stampless Covers, 1703-1850's. 24 covers; includes 1703 letter to Boston (prior to establishment of a post office system), four 1789-96 straight line cancels including "ship 2:16" rate, another group of straight line cancels 1797, 1798, 1800 (2), 1805 (2) includes handstamp "Free" & handstamp "Ship" with 10 & 12 rates, another 1806 straight line used as forwarding mark, 6 ovals 1813-29, in black, green & red including war rate "15", 1829 manuscript and various later usages; condition a little varied, F.-V.F. overall.
