Fort Hawkins. Two 1818 folded letters; first a straight line Fort, Hawkins postmark with manuscript "21 May" below and matching "Free" frank to the Paymaster General in Washington D.C., endorsed "John B. Hogan, P.M. (Paymaster) 7 Reg Infy" at top right, letter regarding his movements from Fort Montgomery and Fort Scott during his delinquency of accounts, second with manuscript "Fort Hawkins, 20 August 1818" postmark and "Free" frank as well as a straight line "Free" handstamp, addressed to the Quartermaster General in Washington D.C. and endorsed "Public Service" at top; first cover with some internal splitting along folds and postmark with portion of postmark drawn in, otherwise F.-V.F., a rare pair of covers from Fort Hawkins with the straight line handstamp postmark being unique and only four manuscript postmarks are recorded; straight line handstamp cover with 2009 P.F. certificate.Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.
