Andrew Jackson's short tenure as military governor of Florida…The discontent of the Spanish officiers who have remained, towards the conduct of Gen'l. Jackson, has occasioned him to issue his proclamation ordering them out of the country in three days, - this has occasioned great commotion & how it will end God only knows - The Genl. leaves here in a few weeks for Tennessee, and I fear Col. Wilson, who will be acting Governor during his absence, will have a difficult task to curb the restless spirits inhabiting this country., Very Fine, one of three known usages of this rare postmark type used during the pre-territorial American Military Government Period.Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.
