Mexico, 1867-68 "Sello Negro" Covers. 18 provisional period covers; including Tuxtepec (Schatzkes 1814), Chalchicomula (1183, 1185), San Juan del Rio (1320, 1318A), Chalchihuites (1862, 1862C), Catorce (1471), Soyaniquilpan (1547), Apam (26), Viezca, Morelos with Cuautla boxed handstamp, Tepeji del Rio (852), La Piedad (1468) and many others; clear full strikes throughout, few cover flaws, overall Very Fine.

Following the end of the French Intervention, the postal system in Mexico was in shambles. They refused to use French stamps (Eagles or Maximilians) so most areas of the country reverted to the prestamp stampless cover system.
