NGL Line Steamship "Hermann", New York April 21st - Southampton May 2nd 1870. Wrapper originating at New Orleans April 17th 1870 addressed to Quakenbruck, Hanover. Prepaid the 15 cent NGU closed mail rate of January 1868 using 1869, 2¢ brown + 3¢ ultramarine + 10¢ yellowish orange slightly overlapping. The bag was dropped off at Southampton and routed via Ostend and sorted on May 3rd at the Verviers, Belgium exchange office for onward routing by rail 200 miles N.E. to Quakenbruck. Atlantic Transit 11 days; reinforced fold separations, otherwise Very Fine; with 1989 P.F. certificate. Scott No. 113+114+116 Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.
