French Line "St. Laurent", New York - Brest 8th - 18th August 1868. 1861, 3¢ rose, strip of four (few toned perfs) on 1864, 3¢ pink entire from Madison, New Jersey and endorsed by sender "Europe by French steamer". Made up to 15 cents for the under ¼ ounce rate, the New York post office applied the "INSUFFICIENTLY PAID" stamp, presumably because the letter was over ¼ ounce. Routed through Paris on the 19th August to arrive at Matignon near St. Malo on the 20th., Very Fine.Scott No. 65+U58 Estimate $150 - 200.
