NGL Line Steamship "Hermann", New York January 2nd - Southampton January 12th 1868. Envelope posted at Clifton, Illinois on December 30th 1868 addressed to Orsiere, Switzerland. Prepaid the 21 cent rate via France of April 1857 with 1861, 1¢ blue + 10¢ green, horizontal pair (nibbed perf at left) cancelled unusually in green by the Clifton grid. Reverse bears an indistinct Swiss TPO and an Orsiere arrival stamp of January 16th. Atlantic Transit of 10 days, Very Fine. Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.
