New York & Bremen Steamship Company, Baltic, New York - Southampton April 20th - May 4th 1867. Envelope to Malaga, Spain carried on the Baltic from New York on April 20th with London transit of May 4th 1867 and Malaga arrival of May 8th on reverse. The rate to Spain via Britain by American Packet was 21 cents between October 1858 and February 1867. The letter was correctly franked using 1861, 1¢ blue + 10¢ green, vertical pair (rough perfs at right). For an unknown reason the "PAID-ONLY / TO ENGLAND" was applied and the letter charged 8 Reales applied at the Spanish exchange office. The Line was short lived operating from February to December 1867 with four steamships undertaking 17 round trips. Atlantic Transit of 14 days, Very Fine. Scott No. 63+68 Estimate $500 - 750.
