Baltimore & Liverpool Steamship Company, Steamship Carroll Maiden Voyage, Queenstown June 7th - Baltimore June 21st 1866. Wrapper file noted "London 6th June 1866" to Richmond, Virginia. Baltimore had no appropriate stamp for the rate and annotated the letter "24/36" in crayon as depreciated currency, Very Fine. Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.
The Line operated between October 1865 and October 1868 on a somewhat sporadic basis with three slow and unreliable steamships. Winter notes that few covers carried on this route are known. Atlantic Transit of 14 days.
