NGL Line Steamship "Hansa" Mails to France, Maiden Return Voyage, New York December 21st 1861 - Southampton January 3rd. Envelope originating in San Francisco November 21st 1861 addressed to Langon 29 miles S.W. of Bordeaux on the Girond River. Routed via Panama to arrive New York November 18th receiving that offices 12 cent credit stamp to Bremen and put onto the Hansa for Southampton. Prepaid the 15 cent rate of April 1857 with 1861, 5¢ brown yellow + 10¢ green (s.e. at left). Routed via Southampton -Calais - Paris on January 3rd arriving Langon the following day.
