Feldman Collection of Atlantic Mails - Other Lines & Important Covers 1843-1856

Havre Line?s "Arago" & "Humboldt". Two covers; "Humboldt", Envelope forwarded by John Munroe & Co. in Paris and put onto the Humboldt at Havre on 31st August 1853. Addressed to New York where the Humboldt arrived on the 14th September. The charge of "24" applied at New York does not conform to the treaty rate for direct mail on an American packet of 20 cents (1851 - 1857).

"Argo", Envelope forwarded by Sumner, Morant & Draper of Paris who, initially struck the "Per Steamer / From Liverpool". Manuscript altered to "Argo" and "Havre" and forwarded through Draper & Hagenow at Havre (unlisted by Rowe). Put onto the Argo on 4th June 1856 arriving at New York on 17th June to receive the 20 cent American Packet charge stamp., Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Although the forwarding agent John Munroe & Co. of Paris is listed in Rowe together with the "Par Steamer / Pr. les États - Unis" mark, that for Sumner, Montant & Draper of Paris and their "Per Steamer / From Liverpool" is unlisted.
