Feldman Collection of Atlantic Mails - Other Lines & Important Covers 1843-1856

Lot 2678

New Orleans - Boston - Liverpool - Paris 1850. Folded letter prepaid the 21 cents treaty rate for carriage by American packet, intended for the sailing of the Collins Line's steamer Baltic, but the New Orleans postmaster, realizing that the letter had missed that sailing, sent it directly to Boston for the sailing of Cunard's Niagara. At Boston, New Orleans was credited back "16" cents - one of only three covers known with such a backcredit. Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Realized: $800
