First Bremen Closed Mail, New York to Liverpool November 28 - December 12 1849. Wrapper posted at Louisville, Kentucky prepaid the 21 cents treaty rate to Hanover. Stamped at New York "PAID PART" in black, as the rate to Bremen was 24 cents. At Bremen, however, the letter was accepted as fully paid and the "AMERICA / UBER BREMEN" was applied with no additional charge; light soiling, F.-V.F. Estimate $600 - 800.
