Feldman Collection of Atlantic Mails - Pioneer Steamships

Pioneer Steamship "British Queen", Final Return Voyage & Freight Money Letter, New York April 11th-Liverpool April 28th. Entire dated "New Orleans March 26th 1841" prepaid 25 cents inland to New York and 25 cents Freight Money (manuscript 25/25) addressed to Bordeaux. Forwarded at New York where the "PAID" was applied. On arrival at Liverpool the "SHIP LETTER / LIVERPOOL" (Tabeart S12) was struck on reverse which also received the Calais and Paris transit stamps of May 1st. Charged 14 Decimes on delivery. Atlantic transit of 17 days, Very Fine.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The British Queen left New York on April 11th 1841 on her final voyage before being sold to a Belgium flag carrier. During her two years of operation on the Atlantic she carried Freight Money letters. This is one of very few originating from New Orleans.
