1828 Sailing Packet Fabius 1828, the Previously Unrecorded Name of Boat Cachet. Struck in red by Abraham Bell & Co. on reverse of folded letter from Ireland to Pattonsburg, Virginia. The Bell cachets have long been known for the sailing ships Atlantic, Courier, Josephine, and Robert Fulton, but this cachet for the Fabius has never before been reported. Handed in at New York and rated 20? cents, being 2 cent ship letter fee plus 18? cents inland postage to Virginia, Very Fine.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

Interestingly, an additional 10 cents forwarding postage has been added to the amount due, although there is no other evidence of forwarding.
