Confederation Period, Boston - Newport R.I. of 1787. Part letter sheet file noted "Frederick Geyer Boston May 26. 1787" put into the Boston post office the same day to receive the "BOSTON" stamp (recorded used February - August 1787). A manuscript "4" applied for the same port to port rate as the Colonial Period. If sent overland then the rate for 67 miles would have been 8d. in sterling converted to 2 penny weight, two light file folds, Very Fine. Estimate $400 - 600.
