Peru 1882-3 Pacific War Covers. 2 covers, both to same addressee in Connecticut, franked with Colon heads of Chile and tied by double circle "Callao" date stamps (13 Dec 82 & 4 Sep 83), during the occupation of this region by Chile; almost certainly posted by naval officer on board the USS Lackawanna which was moored off shore and the site of earlier attempts at hosting peace conference; earlier cover quite reduced at right and with corner erosion, latter cover intact but somewhat roughly opened at top right; very scarce usages, F.-V.F.Estimate $300 - 400.
