Mexico 1954-67, 5p ultramarine & blue green, type II. Top margin block of 11, without gum, slight mescal staining mostly visible from reverse and some perf separations, F.-V.F. appearance, reported to be the largest multiple known. Scott No. 883a $5,500 for o.g. singles.
This variety was discovered some years after it was issued, by then practically all the stamp had been sold by the Post Office. A philatelic traveling salesman found two sheets in Acapulco. Also a mescal lover, he placed in his suitcase the two sheets and a bottle of mescal. When arriving in Mexico City he found half the stamps were damaged when the mescal bottle broke during his travels.
