Confederacy, Memphis, Tenn., 1861, 5¢ red on amber. Entire to Arnaudville, La. uprated with 1861, 5¢ green with both tied by "Memphis, Ten., Nov 20" cds; cover reduction at right, cleaned and repaired tear at top right, Very Fine appearance.

As first government stamps appeared on October 16, 1861 the use of the provisional stamps was gradually discontinued but were still legal for postage. Rarely are they seen in combination for postage.

An extremely rare provisional and regular issue conjunctive usage, which is the only known combination of a Memphis Tenn. provisional and Government issue. One of the Philatelic Treasures of the Confederate States.
