Confederacy, Dalton, Ga., 1861, 10¢ black. Bold provisional handstamp with "Dalton, Ga./Sep. 9, 1862" postmark on rose buff cover addressed to "Dr. W. Gus Evans, Care of Col. Lidell, 11th Reg. Miss. Volunteers, Command of Stone Wall Jackson, In or about Washington, D.C.", apparently unbeknownst to the sender the recipient had been taken prisoner of war and the cover was exchanged with "Old Point Comfort, Va./Oct. 23" double circle postmark and matching "Due 3" straight line handstamp, included is original enclosure, flap missing and barest reduction at top, Extremely Fine, ex-MacBride; with 2009 P.F. certificate.
