Brown's Express. Blue double-line oval handstamp with matching "$1.50cts" handstamp on cover to Sacramento, originating from Connecticut with manuscript "North Haven, Ct. Dec 5" pmk & "10" rate, edge wear and light stains, Fine, a very rare Express rate handstamp.

Brown's Express between Stockton and the Southern Mines was started in 1850 by William A. Brown, who in 1853 was shot and killed by an assailant who committed suicide after being apprehended.
