Purple oval handstamp on cover to San Francisco, Cal., franked with 1873, 3¢ green, vertical pair (s.e. at right) applied over Hussey handstamp and canceled by "New York, May 31" cds and duplex killer, reverse with bold sharp "Jarrett & Palmer's Special Fast Trans-Continental Train, New York, June 1, 1876" cds and duplex killer (negative impression on front); sealed cover opening at top and stamps lifted and hinged below to show the local handstamp, F.-V.F., a remarkable local and special railroad postmark used only for this special transcontinental trip, of which less than 4 examples are known, ex Lichtenstein.
