Printed frank in fancy box vertically at left on Well Fargo franked (Haller type E) 1853 3¢ red entire to San Francisco, Cal., blue "Wells, Fargo & Co., Oroville" date stamp canceling, cover tears and reduced into indicia at right, Fine, the only on cover example of express known, Gridley ran from Oroville up the river in Butte county from 1859-1862.
