Confederacy, Charleston, S.C., Oct 6, 186_, neat town cancel tying 1861, 10¢ light milky blue Stone Y (huge margins) on 1862 cover to "General Johnson Pettigrew, Petersburg, Virginia", expertly repaired flap tear which just extends onto front of the cover, Extremely Fine and choice, a lovely gem. Scott No. 2e Estimate $300 - 400.
Pettigrew commanded the defense of Petersburg in 1863 and was mortally wounded at Falling Waters, W. Va. 17 July 1863.
