1856, 5¢ red brown, four large even margins, fresh color, neatly tied to folded letter from New Orleans, Louisiana to Pontay, France, by "New Orleans La. Nov 17" postmark, red "New-York Br. Pkt. Nov 26" exchange office datestamp, carried on the Cunard Line steamer Europa, which departed New York on November 26 and arrived at Liverpool on December 8, red Liverpool "9 DE 1856" transit, "Etats-Unis. Paq. Brit. A. Calais 9 Dec. 56" entry datestamp and "13" (décimes) due handstamp, reverse with French transit and "Schirmeck 11 Dec. 56" arrival mark; Extremely Fine and choice, illustrated in Frajola and Mayer The United States Five Cent Issue of 1856 on page 82, ex Mayer; with 1981 P.F. certificate.
