Auraria K.T., Aug.2 1859, clearly struck two line handstamped postmark on cover with manuscript "Paid" at top right to Rhode Island, interesting original contents datelined "Auraria Kansas Territory, Foot of the Rocky Mountains", letter written by Joseph Whiting, both the cover and contents are water stained and otherwise damaged, but quite readable and historically significant, Fine appearance. Estimate $500 - 750.
Contract mail service to Auraria was begun on July 11, 1859 and was carried by the United States Express Company until they failed after their 26 August 1859 trip.
