U.S. Postal History: Western Express Covers (Hinckley to Truman)

Todd & Co.'s Express Receipt Book, leather record book (5.5x7.35'') being the receipt book kept by Alexander Todd & Company between December 2, 1850 and April 2, 1851, each page containing several entries signed by persons receiving packages and letters from the express as delivered from their San Francisco office, most shipments containing gold and apparently most originating in mines near Stockton, a total of 110 pages bearing 506 receipts from over 160 different firms and individuals, including some of the most prominent individuals in San Francisco noting Sam Brannan, Crittenden & Randolph, Dana Brothers, William Eddy, JL Folsom, James King of William, Joseph Leavitt, Page Bacon & Co. and John Temple, other express names present include Freeman & Co. as well as Joseph Gregory of Gregory's Express; book with binding intact but some outer cover wear and erosion, Fine, a wonderful intact express document from this early expressmen and is the earliest reported receipt book from any California express company, ex Nathan.
