Hinckley & Co.'s Express, Denver City, light strike of circular handstamp on 1861 cover originating in Illinois and franked with a 1857 3¢ dull red (small defect) tied by target cancel with Rockford, Ill. double circle postmark alongside, addressed to "Central City, Jefferson Territory" Care of Hinckley's Express, St. Joseph, Missouri, the cover was carried by Hinckley to Mountain City (the Post Office servicing Central City) and forwarded to Breckinridge, U.T. manuscript postmark "Mountain City, C.T." forwarding postmark applied & matching "Paid 3" forwarding postage, Very Fine, a wonderful & unusual item. Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.
Both the Jefferson Territory and U.T. designations were obsolete, as both had become Colorado Territory some two months earlier.
