Montgomery City C.T. Aug 14, black cds on orange cover to Michigan franked with two 1861 3¢ rose adhesives with target cancels, one stamp with small defect, F.-V.F. and scarce, Gold was discovered here in 1859, and the boom reached its peak in 1861.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Montgomery City was a boom town that went bust when the gold played out. Despite its brief importance, covers (all territorial) are quite scarce. The office closed in 1872.
