Las Animas Colo. Aug 2, black cds on cover to Kansas franked with 3¢ Bank Note (toned perfs) with manuscript & target cancels, few tiny toned spots, F.-V.F. Estimate $200 - 300.
The Las Animas post office opened in 1871. The town flourished until 1874, when it was bypassed by the Kansas Pacific Railroad. A new town called Las Animas grew up at the railhead, and the original became East Las Animas.
