Red "Paid" handstamp on folded letter with a light pencil "48" cents rate, endorsed "pr Washington Steamer", manuscript "2/" due & green "Liverpool Oct, 10 1847" receiving cds on the reverse, this was paid at the rate of 24c per half ounce for up to an ounce (48c), with prepayment required, under the auspices of the Bremen Postal Arrangement of 1847, Very Fine, examples of mail to Bremen from the first five voyages are scarce.
