Lot of two stampless covers, both sent unpaid under provisions of the US-British Convention of Dec-1869, effective Jan. 1, 1870, which allowed for 4¢ per ½oz. open mail rate to France via England, 1st Cover with Boston cds & blue crayon "4" cents, "GB/2F" accountancy marking, French entry cds & handstamped "8" decimes due with "Short Paid" handstamp, 2nd Cover with Boston cds & blue crayon "2/8" (double rate - 8 cents) per half ounce, "GB/2F" accountancy handstamp and handstamped "16" decimes due, French entry cds & "Short Paid" handstamp, F.-V.F.
