1860, 30¢ orange + 12¢ black, plate 3. Tied together by red "Philadelphia Pa. Paid Jan. 1, 1860" circular datestamp on blue 1861 cover to a naval address in Gibraltar, markings include French transit including boxed "P.D.", receiving backstamp, bold blue "8Rs" due marking, as well as blue Gibraltar arrival postmark on front of cover, slightly reduced at top and missing top flap, some ink erosion in address and from docketing

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE USAGE TO GIBRALTAR WITH THE ADDED RARITY OF A PHILADELPHIA EXCHANGE OFFICE DATESTAMP IN RED.

The rate paid of 42¢ paid the rate for a double-weight cover sent via French Mails. Ex Gallagher and Sevenoaks. With 2001 P.F. certificate.
