New York, N.Y., 1845, 5¢ black on bluish. two horizontal pairs, positions 6-7, 11-12, large margins to just touched, tied by red square grids and "New-York Jan. 27" circular datestamp on 1847 folded cover to Mobile Ala., blue "20" rate, red "Paid" in arc handstamp, address partly eradicated, 2004 P.F. certificate mentions right stamp with a diagonal crease at top (of which we find no trace in either pair), the right pair removed and improperly replaced, the folded letter cleaned affection address with non-contemporary "LM" at bottom left

FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE DOUBLE 10-CENT RATE USAGE OF THE 5-CENT NEW YORK POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL TO MOBILE, ALABAMA.
