Jackson the paymaster of the U.S. Steamer Michigan in Erie, Pa., franked with U.S. 1861, 3¢ rose tied by grid with matching "Old Point Comfort, Aug 25" cds over examiner's marking, endorsed "By Flag of Truce, via Fortress Monroe, From Prisoner of War" at left, with original enclosure datelined "Columbia, S.C., August, 6th, 1864" to his "Adopted Father" regarding his capture and second letter from correspondence dated "Richmond Jail…Sept. 28th, 1864" that was hand carried to Washington D.C. by a group of POW Navy officers on exchange from the Richmond Jail; cover slightly reduced at left, toning spots and crease at top affecting stamp, F.-V.F., a very rare usage from the Richmond Jail; with detailed biography & 2001 C.S.A. certificate.
