Confederacy, Franklin Depot, Va. Blue cds with matching "Due 10" handstamp on buff Soldier's cover (endorsement at top left) to Buena Vista, Ga., cover forwarded to Morris Station with red "Buena Vista" cds & two strikes of straight line "Paid" & on of "10" rate marking, cover then returned to Buena Vista, trivial ink erosion at right, Very Fine; with 1991 C.S.A. certificate. Estimate $300 - 400.
The Postmasters apparently unsure of the rates and the forwarding procedures for a soldier's cover, lined through all of the rate markings and a single manuscript "Paid 10" was applied in the upper right corner to indicate that the cover was to be considered as fully paid. A most unusual and rare item.
