Newfoundland, 1857, 8d scarlet vermilion, bisected. Top portion of stamp with large margins around, in combination with 1857, 3d green, large margins, well tied by oval of bars and the 3d additionally by "St. Johns Newfoundland Paid/AU 21 1861" rimless c.d.s. in red on envelope to Essex, Vermont, showing "Harbor Britain/AU 14 1861" double arc origin d.s. and "5 Boston Br. Pkt./Sep 5" c.d.s. adjacent, envelope has a light vertical filing fold well to right of stamps and small central stain from the wax seal which is now missing, Very Fine and rare, an exceedingly rare 1857, 8d bisect usage to the United States, ex-Dale-Lichtenstein, Foxbridge, Dr. Chan, Robertson; with 2004 V.G.
