Hawaii, 1838 missionary letter. A folded letter datelined "Waialua (Oahu), Sabbath Morning, September 9, 1838" written by Edwin Locke to Fitzwilliam, N.H., letter carried by ship Captain to Boston where it was placed in the mails after a 6 month voyage, postmarked red Boston & magenta manuscript "12" rate, lengthy religious letter which has been fully transcribed with some interesting contents, "While you, I trust, continue to worship Jehovah there and there to celebrate the dying love of Christ, your unworthy brother is permitted to stand on Hawaii distant shores surmounted indeed by tens of thousands of sinful and desperate men, yet enjoying exalted privileges, and permitted to see multitudes of once heathen souls turning from this wickedness and professing giving of themselves to the Savior and to be his forever.", Very Fine, a rare early letter.
