Indian Diggings, Cal./Dec. 3, '55 (El Dorado). Manuscript postmark (Williams ELD-1910) on cover to Sacramento franked with four margin 1851 3¢ dull red with manuscript cancel, original miner's letter enclosed which includes, "If I have no better luck this Winter, I shall leave the country in the Spring, perhaps for South America or Oregon. Indian Diggins has about one hundred twenty new buildings…I have not been to the Mountains where we saw a fine example of the serpent race since we were there, you still remember how a fine rattlesanke appears when suddenly aroused from his sweet repose?", flap tear extending onto front, stamp apparently replaced, Very Fine, a very rare postmark, of which this is the earliest recorded.
