Canyon Creek, Cal. (El Dorado). Two folded letters, first datelined "Canon Creek, Sept. 18, 1849" on folded cover to Illinois, with manuscript notation of "Canon Creek, Cal., Sept. 18th, 1849" (which looks like a manuscript postmark, however is probably only docketing) & "Politeness of Mr. G.C. Alexander", mining letter mentions, "Allen & I have been at work here about ten days & are doing tolerable well, making little over one ounce a piece pr day.", 2nd folded letter datelined "Canyon Creek, June 8, 1851" & is addressed to New York with black "New York/5cts" due postmark, letter from miners to his wife, "I have been here, but if you want me to come home, you must not write me 5 letters a month…when they came from town by express the postage on the five was ten dollars, but I had rather have twenty to pay for than none. One man had twenty five in one mail cost over 40 dollars, but I once in awhile make a good strike, so that I can pay for letters.", 2nd cover with some edge toning & stains, Very Fine, Canyon Creek was a mining region between Georgetown & Bottle Hill, a rare pair. Estimate $300 - 400.
