Sacramento City, Cal., Feb 26. Red circular postmark (Williams SAC-2520) with matching red fancy "12½" rate handstamp on 1850 folded letter to San Francisco, Very Fine, quite possibly the earliest example of this postmark. Estimate $300 - 400.
This postmark in J. Williams' book "California Town Postmarks 1849-1935" lists the earliest known usage of this postmark as October 26, 1850.
