1935 Postage Meter. 1935 New York meter (US Postage Meter Catalog No. PO-FB6) on a local New York cover, Very Fine, Meter 90060 was the first meter used in a U.S. post office, the earliest known date being December 26, 1934. The meter originally had town line "NEW YORK / N.Y." It was used that way until December 31, 1934 and then pulled from service. It was returned to service shortly after with new town line "MAD. SQ. STA. / NEW YORK, N.Y.". This cover, dated January 2, 1935, is the earliest date known of the second state.; with 2000 A.P.S. certificate.
